Cloud-native applications are rapidly becoming the standard, driving enterprises to build AWS-driven strategies for applications and data. And indeed, priorities for enterprise data management have shifted towards elasticity, scalability, on-demand and self service capabilities. The Stratoscale Symphony 3 release fulfills this demand with new, innovative capabilities, enabling IT to lead the transformation and fast forward adoption. This holistic, software-defined infrastructure solution transforms the data center into a “hybrid and AWS-compatible environment,” with enhanced compute, block and object storage, monitoring, and fully managed services such as Stratoscale’s container services. In addition, the new Application Marketplace automates enterprise application deployment.
Stratoscale Symphony 3 New Services and Capabilities
Stratoscale Symphony 3 fuels the transition towards an “all-in” strategy that is aligned with the AWS ecosystem, while enabling organizations to maintain full control of all infrastructure aspects. Symphony enables enterprises to immediately adopt a hybrid strategy. Workloads and data can easily migrate to the public , while other workloads can be maintained on-premises, with the minimal effort required to continuously manage both types as AWS regions.
Object Store
Symphony 3 now offers unified and durable -driven storage, in which object storage resides side by side with block storage on the same hyperconverged infrastructure. With Symphony’s software-defined storage, resources can easily shift between the different storage types, without requiring management of multiple, siloed-storage solutions. With its comprehensive and simple GUI, operations such as creating object storage and buckets, viewing objects, and upload and download operations, is simple and straightforward.
Symphony object store is highly scalable, S3 API compatible, and supports multi tenancy. With this new capability, admins maintain full control over the object’s replica count (2 or 3), to allow for regular and gold resiliency. This functionality enables an easy transition for -native applications, as well as development of new enterprise applications based on methodologies, offering scalability, agility and flexibility.
Kubernetes-as-a-Service
Symphony 3 removes the operational barriers of embracing a container-based strategy by reducing the need for skilled and experienced talent with its fully managed Kubernetes-as-a-Service. Admins can directly accesses the Kubernetes GUI to deploy services and applications, and use the KubeCtl CLI or Kube API to connect the cluster to automated procedures such as Jenkins flows.
With Symphony’s intuitive GUI or API admins can create their own clusters –
Symphony keeps the cluster up and running and provides network access to the cluster endpoints and nodes maintenance, allowing admins to easily monitor the cluster health and usage. Symphony removes the operational barriers of adopting a container-based strategy, by reducing the need for skilled and experienced talent as well as the lifecycle management overhead of Kubernetes.
AWS Region
AWS services are now the standard for provisioning and managing applications. Symphony offers EC2, EBS, S3, VPC services, with additional AWS compatible services to be introduced in the near future. AWS compatible services enable easy mobility for both applications and data, based on the same functionality and consumption models developers expect with AWS. These capabilities shorten the learning curve and offer a natural migration towards hybrid strategies, offering true application and data mobility.
Symphony 3 enables business units to align with the AWS vision; to leverage the AWS devops tools they have adopted for -native applications and implement them for on-premises workloads. By constructing an AWS Region in the enterprise datacenter, teams can modernize apps and deliver them quickly, ensuring a high level of portability and short time to market.
Application Catalog
Symphony’s Application Marketplace includes over 130 pre-packaged stacks of a wide variety of enterprise applications, offering an advanced marketplace to which teams can add custom tested and automated applications. DevOps teams can utilize golden images or -init triggered automation that can run any configuration management agents such as Chef, Puppet, Salt and such. service providers can upload packaged automated and tested stacks for customers (tenants) to consume directly.
With a single click, users can install the entire stack of the application and apply automated configurations. These pre-set automated configurations reduce operational complexity, boosting agility and shortening time-to-market.
